Three more persons were arrested for allegedly raping a 20-year-old girl, who committed suicide by immolating herself in Ranchi, late on Thursday.
The accused — the victim’s boyfriend, Preet Ranjan Prasad, and his friends Gauri Shankar Munda and George Kuzur — were produced before the court of first class judicial magistrate S.M. Sikdar on Friday along with the fourth accused, Uttam Mahto.
Mahto landed in the police net early on Thursday. They were remanded in judicial custody.
“The arrests are a major breakthrough as the revelations made by the four during interrogations will help establish the case,” Ranchi SSP Saket Kumar Singh said.
However, the SSP refused to say whether the four admitted to their crime.
The girl, a student of Ranchi Women’s College, in her dying declaration, accused the four of raping her in a field at Angada on March 17. Unable to bear the social stigma, she set herself on fire on March 20 and died soon after being rushed to RIMS.
