Smart tips to handle teenage tantrums

Iron fist in velvet glove? Tackling teens and their mood swings can prove tricky, but Lion’s Club International is here to help teachers deal with adolescents with friendly firmness.

From March 29 to 31, the workshop titled “Lion’s Quest: Skills For Adolescence Programme”, will give teachers tips on dealing with behavioural disorders among adolescents, their stress and academic pressure in a city that’s alarmingly labelled the suicide capital of eastern India.

The three-day teachers’ training workshop will be held at Nature Education Centre, Tata Steel Zoological Park.

The meet, which is being held after two years, will be for 30 middle schools teachers who teach from Class VI and above. More than 10 teachers have already registered for it.

The programme has been approved and recommended by various international outfits as value-based educational curriculum for students between 10 and 14 years of age.

Through its internationally approved skills programme, Ratna Choudhry, a senior trainer, will take up the task of training the teachers on how to constructively handle adolescent emotions, help them set goals and sharpen their mental skills to stay healthy and away from drugs.

Each participant will get a set of seven books related to students, teachers and parents. One set includes two books on teachers’ curriculum, Lions Quest: Skills for Adolescence manual, teachers’ resource guide, students’ workbook, guide on parents’ meetings and a book for guardians.
