Calcutta: Assam had everything going their way against Jharkhand, starting from the toss till the match, at the Tripura Institute of Technology ground in Agartala, on Thursday.
Yet, after a comprehensive six-wicket win, Assam find themselves knocked out of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 Trophy. Reason: Odisha beat Bengal in the other game by a handsome margin of 34 runs, which propelled them to the top slot of East Zone with a net run rate of +0.968, followed by Bengal (+0.959).
Assam finished at +0.036, as everything boils down to their below-par show in the contest versus Bengal, which they lost by 53 runs.
However, on Thursday, Assam bowlers were right on their money. Pacers Arup (three for 25) and Pritam Das reduced Jharkhand to 20 for three within the first six overs.
