Shillong/Guwahati, March 21: Defending champions Mizoram marched into the semi-finals of the 4th T. Ao football tournament defeating Tripura 3-0 in their last group B league match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong today.

After a barren first half, Mizoram took the lead through F. Lalrinpuia in the 64th minute.

Though Tripura had several chances, they could not convert and Mizoram went on to score two more goals.

Lal Lawnzuala doubled the advantage for his side in the 83rd minute and substitute Lal Chhuan Tlianga scored the third goal in the second minute of stoppage time at the end of 90 minutes.

Hosts Meghalaya blanked out Nagaland 4-0 yesterday in a Group A match.

Nagaland was the more threatening team in the first 20 minutes but could not convert their chances into a goal. The home team lifted the tempo after half-an-hour and their efforts paid off in the 38th minute. Niwan O. Gatphoh ran with the ball up the right flank and crossed it to Milton Kharsati, who had a tap-in.

The very next minute, Meghalaya doubled the score after Ronnie Nongbri chipped the ball for a waiting Donbok Khymdeit to score the second goal. The score remained 2-0 going into the break.

In the second half, a mistake by a Nagaland defender led to Meghalaya’s third goal, scored by Milancy Khongstia in the 54th minute.

Nagaland replaced their goalkeeper Vizovor Liezietsu with Mezhulhoukho but the latter could not stop the hosts from scoring a fourth goal.

Another defensive mistake in the 76th minute led to Gatphoh’s strong strike flying into the net to complete the rout.
