Guwahati, March 21: Goalpara today set up Saturday’s quarter-final clash with home side Guwahati, defeating Bajali by five wickets in a pre-quarters match of the R.G. Baruah Trophy inter-district (under-17) cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here.
Bajali elected to bat and were all out for 126 in 38.5 overs. The Goalpara boys achieved the target losing five wickets in 32.2 overs.
Muazzam Ansari topscored for Bajali with a steady 48 (4x8) and Bikram Dutta remained unbeaten on 15 (4x2). Prakash Kumar Poddar also scored 14 (4x1). Mausam Rabha and Vishal Magar took three wickets each, giving away 22 and 16 runs respectively.
For Goalpara, Delowar Hussain (29, 4x5), Vishal Magar (27, 4x1), Monowar Hussain (20) and Nur Boksh (11) were the main scorers. Prakash Kumar Poddar of Bajali picked up two wickets for 18 runs.
NF Railway today tamed Guwahati by six wickets in a Group A match of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district elite group cricket tournament at Barsapara Stadium here.
Resuming at the overnight score of 136 for four, the second string railway outfit reached 163 for four in 32.4 overs. Electing to bat yesterday, Guwahati were all out for 158 in 58.5 overs on the first day of the two-day affair.
Overnight batsmen Utpal Medhi and Syed Zakaria Zuffri remained unbeaten on 54 (4x5, 6x4) and 19 (4x3) runs respectively. Wicketkeeper-batsman Kunal Saikia topscored for the railway outfit with 65 runs yesterday.
For Guwahati, off-spinner Bitop Mahanta scalped two wickets for 39 while Chanakya Sarma and Bikash Chetri claimed one each.
