Imphal, March 21: Lamyanba Polo team moved into the quarter-final of the 29th state- level polo tournament defeating Tekcham Polo Club by 8-3 goals at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.
The Lamyanba riders rode with great skill in the first chukker, slamming home five goals, with K. Shyamananda striking thrice while Th. Jacob and L. Tolongkhomba scoring one each. Tekcham Polo Club rider S. Ibohal managed to struck his team’s opening goal.
Invading the Tekcham Polo territory, Lamyanba further increased their lead through K. Shyamananda with a goal in the second chukker. But Tekcham Polo managed to hit back through S. Ranjit to make it 6-2.
However, Lamyanba Polo inflicted further humiliation in the third chukker, with K. Shyamananda striking his team’s seventh goal. In the last chukker, Tekcham Polo Club managed to find the target with S. Deva, scoring their third goal. However, Lamyanba rider A. Cameroon scored his team’s eighth goal en route to the quarter-final.
In other matches, ESC Nongmeibung thrashed Nongchup Pana Polo Club by 6-1 goals while Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club (A) defeated Ropkumar Polo Club (B) by 11-2 goals and Khurai Polo Club (A) mauled Thangmeiband Youth Polo Club 18-4 to enter the quarter-finals as well.
Women’s soccer: Ten women footballers have been called by the AIFF to attend the senior women national coaching camp from April 1-10 at Pune in preparation for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers round.
