Gang rape trial

New Delhi, March 21 (PTI): Two of the December 16 Delhi bus gang rape accused today sought bail from a fast-track court.

Mukesh and Vinay Sharma moved their bail applications in the court of additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna who is conducting the proceedings behind closed doors, their counsel told reporters.

Mukesh moved the bail plea to attend the rituals of his elder brother Ram Singh, also an accused who allegedly committed suicide in his cell in Tihar on March 11.

Sex slave case

Kochi (PTI): Kerala High Court has granted bail to the 31 accused in the 1996 Suryanelli sex slave case. The lone convict, Dharmarajan, who was recently arrested from Karnataka, is serving the rest of his life sentence. The court rejected the government counsel’s argument that the accused should first surrender before the trial court.

Ashram attack

Puducherry (PTI): A group of Tamil activists on Thursday allegedly barged into Aurobindo Ashram, damaged furniture and smashed glass panes after injuring the watchman. Twenty activists of the Periyar Dravida Kazhagam were arrested later. The exact reason for the attack is, however, not yet known.
