Mosquito menace and more

For the past four years or more, open drains are being dug up on both sides of Andul Road. These drains are full of stagnant dirty water that has not been cleared for a long time. Although open drains are a common problem all over Howrah, but the ones on Andul Road have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Our homes are infested with mosquitoes all day long, forcing us to use mosquito nets even in daytime. At night, it gets worse. I would request the authorities to see to it that the drains are cleared at regular intervals to relieve us of this ordeal.

Many libraries in the rural belt of Howrah like Bagnan and Shyampur, are lying closed for lack of a librarian. In most cases, the librarians have retired and no new librarian has been appointed. Some are run by junior library staff while others have closed. Residents, specially students who depend on the libraries for their reference work, cannot get necessary books and have to go to other libraries far from their home. I wonder when the concerned department will recruit new staff at the rural libraries.
