Absu poser to Assam govt

Kokrajhar, March 20: The All Bodo Students Union (Absu) has demanded clarity from the government on the exclusion of 95 villages from the Bodoland Territorial Areas District on the ground that they do not possess 50 per cent Bodo population.

Absu president Promode Boro today said according to clause 3.2 of the memorandum of settlement with the BLT, the government had to include the 95 villages to the existing 3,082 villages within three months, since they have 50 per cent of Bodo population.

“We do not understand how the high court can intervene in the matter by ignoring the constitutional obligation,” he said. The Absu said the issue was “a constitutional matter since the BTC was formed through the 90th constitutional amendment”. Boro said the exclusion of villages may create a divide between Bodos and other communities.
