Guwahati, March 20: Home side Guwahati today inflicted a 60-run defeat on Mangaldoi to march into the quarter-finals of the ongoing RG Baruah Trophy inter-district (under-17) cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here.
The hosts elected to bat and posted 178 for nine in the 40 overs. In reply, Mangaldoi were bundled out for 118 in 37.3 overs. Subham Mandal topscored for Guwahati with a patient 42. Ikramul Hussain and Himangshu Saikia of Mangaldoi bagged three wickets each, giving away 23 and 31 runs respectively. For Mangaldoi, Aman Kalita (29) was the highest scorer. Abir Chakravorty of Guwahati hauled four wickets for 25 runs.
Nuruddin Trophy: Guwahati were, however, under pressure against NF Railway in a Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district elite group cricket tournament group league match at Barsapara Stadium here today.
Electing to bat, Guwahati were all out for 239 in 58.5 overs and the railmen were 136 for four in 29 overs at draw of stumps on the first day of the two-day affair.
