Back in time with postal relics
- Two-day event kicks off

Jamshedpur-based Singhbhum postal division has come up with a visual feast for philately lovers of the steel city.

Jampex, a two-day district-level philately exhibition, kicked off on Wednesday at Tulsi Bhavan, Bistupur.

With its collection of more than 1,000 types of stamps and covers from various countries and periods, it is a treat for collectors and laypersons alike.

Singhbhum postal division, one of the six in the state, has also utilised this opportunity to launch two special postal covers.

While one commemorates 50 years of Jubilee Park, the other focuses on the need to ensure the safety of the girl child in India.

The postal cover pertaining to the completion of 50 years of Jubilee Park was released on Wednesday by chief postmaster general of Jharkhand K.K. Sinha at the venue of the exhibition. S.S. Kujur, director of postal services in Jharkhand, will release the cover related to the girl child on Thursday.

“Jubilee Park is a key tourist attraction and is entwined with the lives of citizens. So, we decided to release a cover on it. The one related to girl child safety focuses on a burning social issue,” said N. Sarkar, senior superintendent of Singhbhum Postal division.

The first day of the exhibition saw heavy footfall of students.

Stamps on mountain expeditions, radio transmissions, Olympics and classical music proved popular. India’s first postal stamps gave youngsters a glimpse of a bygone era.
