Five youths posing as policemen allegedly kidnapped two employees of a software company near the Park Circus connector late on Tuesday.
Three persons, including one of the “abducted” employees, have been arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed the employee had been hand in -glove with the “kidnappers”.
The gang introduced themselves as “officers from Lalbazar” and demanded Rs 20 lakh from Ajit Kumar Yadav, the managing director of the company. “When Yadav refused, they scaled it down to Rs 50,000,” said an officer. Yadav was asked to withdraw money from an ATM while two employees, Irshad and Saddam, were held hostage.
While Yadav was away, the gang left with the employees. When Yadav contacted them, the kidnappers asked him to hand over the money near the seven-point crossing at 5am.
Police rescued Irshad and arrested one of the alleged kidnappers, who led them to mastermind Tabeez Shakeel.
Saddam was “released” on Wednesday, raising suspicion about his involvement.
