Not a super sub: Barisic

Calcutta: East Bengal striker Andrew Barisic is not easy with the tag super sub.

“No I am not a super sub. I want to get as many starts as possible. This is my first season with East Bengal. And I want to make a mark. I want to score goals whenever I get a chance,” Barisic said after a practice session on Tuesday.

East Bengal play United Sports Club in the IFA Shield final, on Wednesday. “I have no issues. (Edeh) Chidi is doing a wonderful job. He is scoring goals regularly.”

Barisic said the win against Mohun Bagan brought in more responsibility. “If we lose the final nobody will talk about the win over Bagan. So we have to ensure that that there is no slip-up.”

Coach Trevor James Morgan said even though East Bengal played United SC quite a few times this season, Wednesday’s clash would be different. “Different things are at stake. After all, it’s the final.”

East Bengal won the group-league match against United SC in Siliguri but Morgan was not ready to read too much into that. “They are a very compact side. Carlos (Hernandez) and Ranty (Martins) will pose trouble for us,” he said.

United SC’s Carlos said his team need to stay focused. “We cannot afford to lose concentration. They are set team with very good players. We will be punished if we are lax.”
