Bajali defeat Dhubri boys

Guwahati, March 19: Bajali today got the better of Dhubri by 32 runs in their match of the RG Baruah Trophy inter-district (under-17) cricket tournament at Nahru Stadium here.

Bajali elected to bat and posted 162 for nine in the stipulated 40 overs. In reply, Dhubri started their chase patiently but lost quick wickets midway into the innings to be all out for 130 in 33.4 overs.

Ratul Dey topscored for Bajali with a steady 28 (4x3) while skipper Nipujit Kalita contributed a patient 26 (4x1). Ajay Sarma (20, 4x1), Muazzam Ansari (15, 4x1) and Jitu Ali (15, 4x1) were the other main scorers for the side.

Joyjit Roy of Dhubri dismissed four Bajali batsmen conceding 29 runs while teammate Saurov Bose captured two for 24.

Later on, Mahin Chaudhury (37, 4x5) was the topscorer for Dhubri. Jagannath Paul (25, 4x2) and Swapnil Bhowmik (15, 4x1) were the other notable scorers for the side.

Muazzam Ansari of Bajali took three wickets giving away 17 runs while Nabarun Mahanta and Jitu Ali shared two each for 25 and 17 respectively.

Club cricket: Brahmaputra Boys Club today handed a five-wicket defeat to Genesis Club to book a semi-final berth in the Anairam Nunisa Guwahati Sports Association second division cricket tournament at Judges Field today.
