Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra shoot a song sequence for Gunday
|
Actor Ranveer Singh was rushed to hospital on Tuesday morning after he suffered a two-inch gash on the sole of his left foot while shooting a pit wrestling scene for Gunday at Howrah’s Jagannath Ghat. The Band Baaja Baaraat star, who plays wagon breaker-turned smuggler Bikram in the Yash Raj film set in Calcutta of the 1970s, was wheeled into Desun Hospital on the Bypass with his bare torso still covered in mud and his left foot bleeding.
A unit hand said Ranveer was initially “hyper” but calmed down on being told that the wound didn’t look too serious. General surgeon Bishwarup Bose, who stitched up the gash, hadn’t heard of the actor before but younger members of the staff couldn’t contain their excitement on hearing who had just checked in.
“There was a lot of interest among the younger hospital employees regarding Ranveer Singh. They wanted to get close but we did not let them crowd around him,” Bose said.
Sources said it took Tolly actor-director Arindam Sil, whose Nothing Beyond Cinema is doing line production for Gunday, to convince Ranveer that it was okay for him to undergo treatment at Desun. He called his personal physician in Mumbai and later his father to consult them on the line of treatment suggested by the hospital.
The actor called his doctor a second time to ask what surgical suture should be used.
Members of the hospital staff were amused to find the macho actor as nervous as any other patient before a medical procedure. “He was grimacing during the shot of local anaesthesia,” a nurse giggled.
Ranveer, who has been camping in town since last month, left the hospital around 1.30pm. Leading lady Priyanka Chopra flew out of Calcutta two days ago.
