Noisy fans irk Sunny

Mohali: The India-Australia third Test was a thrilling encounter between the bat and the ball, but that didn’t manage to pull in enough crowd to fill the stands.

The attendance was abysmal on all four days of the tie. But the handful that witnessed the match were at their noisiest best. Such has been their enthusiasm that it has irked Sunil Gavaskar, who was doing commentary for the match.

Autograph and photograph-hunting fans waited impatiently outside the commentary box at the PCA Stadium. Their chatter left Gavaskar disturbed, on the final day, on Monday.

Taking advantage of the lax security in the AC lounge on the third floor of the stadium, some fans reportedly mobbed Matthew Hayden, who was doing commentary for the match.

The commotion miffed Gavaskar. “Have you come to watch a match here or what? Do you realise that this noise reaching inside is disturbing us,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying by the Agencies.
