Goalpara deafeat Biswanath

Guwahati, March 18: Goalpara defeated Biswanath Chariali by nine wickets in today’s one-sided Group A match of the R.G. Baruah Trophy inter-district (under-17) cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here.

Biswanath Chariali won the toss and elected to bat. They were skittled out for a paltry total of 39 runs in 21 overs. The Goalpara batsmen took only 4.2 overs to romp home, scoring 40 runs for the loss of one wicket to register a thumping victory.

Mensing Taro (7, 4x1) and Sagar Mandal (6) were the only notable scorers for Biswanath Chariali. Mandal, who faced 23 balls, was the only Biswanath Chariali batsman to be able to negotiate the Goalpara bowling attack for some time.

Bedanta Kashyap and Inzamul Hussain of Goalpara shared three wickets each, giving away eight and 15 runs respectively. Abhay Ghosh also picked up two wickets for only one run.

For Goalpara, Delwar Hussain remained not out on 22, facing 19 balls off which he slammed four boundaries. Vishal Magor also remained unbeaten on nine off six balls, hitting one four.

Parimal Prabar Koch of Biswanath Chariali picked up the only wicket conceding 24 runs from two overs.

In tomorrow’s match, Bajali will lock horns with Dhubri.

Shyama Charan win: A fine spell of quick bowling from Bishal Rudra Paul saw Shyama Charan Dev Vidyapith win the 13th Baidyanath Trophy inter-school (under-15) cricket championship at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar on Monday.

Shyama Charan Dev Vidyapith snatched a nail-biting three-run win over Government Boys’ HS School with just three balls left.

Shyama Charan Dev Vidyapith owed their maiden title victory to the lanky fast-bowler as he bowled a fantastic over at the death and picked up two crucial wickets.
