Kangchup Road win

Imphal, March 18: Kangchup Road Youth Physical Sporting Association galloped ahead with a 5-2 goal win over Thangmeiband Polo Club today in the 29th State-Level Open Polo Tournament under way at Mapal Kangjeibung.

Kangchup Road riders faced little resistance from the inexperienced Thangmeiband players with P. Bung Singh fetching the opening goal in the first chukker and later in the second chukker, T. Leishamba consolidated for Kangchup Road to command a 2-0 lead.

In the third chukker, Thangmeiband rider Naoba Singh made a long hit straight into the goal but his work was overshadowed by Kangchup Road rider T. Leishemba and S. Deepak, who hit home a goal each to make the scorecard 4-1. S. Robert increased the lead for Kangchup Road, slamming home his team’s fifth goal. Sharat Singh managed to chip in with Thangmeiband’s second goal but it was too late to save the game.

In another match, Meiraba Polo Club thrashed Chingkheihunba Polo Club by 6-3 goals. Meiraba Polo made a leap in the first chukker with O. Seitajit, K. Rishikumar and Th. Nanao hitting home a goal each.

S. Bronson managed to chip in a goal for Chingkhei Hunba team.

The second chukker proved productive for Meiraba, with O. Seitajit pushing home two more goals to post a 5-1 lead.

The third chukker failed to produce any goals but in the fourth chukker, Th. Nanao got Meiraba Polo Club’s sixth goal and L. Mineketan’s late surge saw him fetching two goals for Chingkhei Hunba.

Governor’s Cup: Mantripukhri Ecological Park & Training Areas bagged the champion’s title of the 8th Governor’s Cup Polo Tournament at Mantripukhri Green at IGAR (S) complex.
