Protest over govt move on OIL

Dibrugarh, March 18: Altogether 14 organisations under the aegis of All Assam Students Union (AASU) today staged a dharna in front of the Dibrugarh deputy commissioner’s office.

The protesters, who came from Duliajan, protested against the divestment of Oil India Limited (OIL).

Anil Gogoi, AASU central committee executive member, said, “Today, altogether 14 organisations have gathered here to protest against the Centre’s policy to go public with OIL’s shares. Till now, 32 per cent of OIL’s shares are in the market and if another 19 per cent shares are invested, then OIL India will be privatised.”

“We have come to know that on February 5, 2013, the Centre had decided sell 10 per cent of OIL’s shares. Our main demand is to urge the government to take back the 10 per cent share that was sold off recently,” he added.

Gogoi also said they are against privatisation of OIL.

A memorandum, mentioning their demands, was submitted to additional deputy commissioner Bandana Tumuli.
