Disrespect slur on official

Kokrajhar, March 18: The Kokrajhar district committee of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union burned an effigy of a senior education official for showing disrespect to the community.

The union was protesting against Daorao Dekhreb Narzary, chairman of the Central Selection Board of the Bodoland Territorial Council, today for alleged anomalies in the question papers of the examination for irrigation section assistants conducted by the board yesterday. It accused the board chairman of showing disrespect to the Koch Rajbongshi community by trying to distort its history.

The anomalies were found in the 16th and 17th question of the paper. “There were questions like Boro King Haoria Mech or Haridas Mandal established his kingdom by the side of a river at Shiknajhar, and Mech King Narnarayan and Silarai worshipped Bura Bathou Mahadev. This was totally uncalled for,” said Baniram Barman, a member of he union.

“The board is trying to wipe out the Kochs’ history and kingdom status. It is the board’s political conspiracy to destroy the Koch Rajbongshi history,” Barman said.

He demanded an apology from the board chairman. The union threatened to stage a rigorous agitation to if the board chairman did not apologise within 48 hours.
