Family found dead in Mumbai

Mumbai, March 18: A family of four was found dead in their rented apartment in Mumbai’s Wadala today.

Police suspect that they died after consuming poison. A financial crisis might have prompted the family to take the extreme step, they said.

The bodies of Donette Anthony, 49, his wife Elizabeth, 42, son Jason, 12, and daughter Vivian, 4, were found with their faces covered in black plastic in Odyssey Apartment in Wadala. Donette was once a computer programmer but police said it was not clear what he was doing lately.

The police said Donette had called up his brother Anil on Friday and without giving details requested him to pick up their aquarium as they would be shifting. When Anil arrived at the fifth-floor apartment today and detected a foul smell, he opened the flat with the spare key he had.

“The bodies were found in the bedroom with the faces covered in black plastic. There were no signs of struggle,” said additional commissioner of police Praveen Salunkhe.

The police said the family was involved in a court matter related to the apartment. The extreme step was taken because of debts that Donette owed, they said. He, however, had a driver with a regular salary of Rs 12,000 and domestic helps.
