High praise from Lara

Calcutta/Mohali: The cricketing fraternity lavished praise on Shikhar Dhawan, who scored a magnificent century on debut.

While Sourav Ganguly said Dhawan has the ability and the technique to adapt to all forms of cricket, Matthew Hayden wrote on Twitter that the hundred of Dhawan will be spoken about for a very long time.

Here’s what they had to say (alphabetically)

Reactions on Twitter

Gautam Gambhir: Jatt ji proud of u. Well done. Pakdey rehna, chordnaa nahi. They r down, crush ’em. Make it large Shikhar.

Matthew Hayden: This 100 of Dhawan will be spoken about for a very long time. The new brand of India has arrived!!! Great to witness history in Mohali. Dhawan’s 100 is the fastest Test 100 by any debutant. Amazing performance!

Ajinkya Rahane: Very well played shikhar:) very happy for you buddy!

Virender Sehwag: Awesome stuff Shikhi boy! :) Best debut ever!! So proud of you. Go for a huge one tomorrow!

Dale Steyn: I hear Shikhar is smoking it! So happy for him! U go my friend!!!

Harbhajan Singh: Very welldone shikhar jaat ji. Top top top batting. really happy for u brother. hard work always pays off. rab rakha jatta. chardikalla ch raho.

Manoj Tiwary: Great display of battin by Shikhar.. Amazin stuff !!! Wish u many more in future bro??

Michael Vaughan: Dhawan’s homework of the Aussie bowlers seems to have worked…

Outside Twitter

Rahul Dravid: When I saw the list of the Indian players who had got the fastest hundreds, I found Kapil Dev, Mohammed Azharuddin, Virender Sehwag in the list, so all these scores happened before T20 cricket had started. It is not that players weren’t playing positively before the coming of T20 cricket but it is just that more and more players are playing like that (fast) these days. That is what is changing. Some of the positions Dhawan got into to play his shots need good technique.

Sourav Ganguly: Lots of players have scored hundreds on debut but what stood out for me is the way he batted, and that has nothing to do with T20 cricket... Dhawan has the ability and the technique, which will help him adapt to all formats of cricket. He is one for the future.

Brian Lara: There might be some relation to the fact that Dhawan has played T20 cricket because 20-30 years ago, no one would have dreamt about such an innings.
