TFA held, Pune FC march to victory

Jamshedpur, March 16: Tata Football Academy (TFA) was held to a draw by Calcutta’s East Bengal in the final round of 6th Under-20 I-League football tournament at the city’s Gopal Maidan today.

East Bengal drew first blood in the 24th minute with a goal from Somnath Nayek. The Calcutta team then went on to take control till TFA striker K. Udanta Singh netted the equaliser for the Tata team in extra time.

In the other fixtures, Salgaocar and Mohun Bagan played out a tame draw at JRD Tata Sports Complex , while Pune FC clinched a 2-1 victory over Sesa Goa at the same venue later.

The contest between Mohun Bagan and Salgaocar saw the Calcutta club conceding the lead in the 33rd minute thanks to a close range shot by Albino Pereira. Bagan, however, were up to the task with Mayon Kaping scoring the equaliser five minutes before the final whistle to dash Salagaocar’s hopes of a victory.

Pune FC had to earn a hard-fought victory against Sesa Goa at JRD turf. Though, a free kick by George D’Souza gave Sesa the lead in the second minute, Pune struck back with the equaliser in the fifth minute. A goal by Thongkhosiem Haokip in the 30th minute sealed the deal for Pune.
