Imphal, March 15: Tekcham Polo Club (A) rode its way to victory to lift the 23rd Governor’s Cup trophy, beating Manipur Police Sports Club (A) at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Tekcham Polo Club were leading 3-0 after the first two chukkers. P. Ojit Singh scored the first goal for Tekcham in the first chukker while in the second chukker, M. Manihar Singh and P. Ojit Singh consolidated with a goal each.
Manipur Police rode back into the game with S. Bimol Singh slamming home his team’s first goal in the third chukker. But in the fourth chukker, Ojit Singh struck home again to make the score 4-1.
Manipur Police team looked to be in the contest again with S. Somorjit Singh hitting home two goals to bring down the margin to 3-4.
But there were no more goals till the end of the match and Tekcham bagged the title.
In the 12th Governor’s Polo Women’s Tournament, Imphal Riding Club beat the District Pana Sagol Kangjei team by 7-0 goals
U-17 team: Rohit Sarma will lead the Guwahati under-17 team in the ongoing R.G. Baruah Trophy under-17 inter-district cricket tournament here from Sunday.
The other players in the team are Erik Roy (wk), Biplab Saikia, Subham Mandal, Riyan Parag, Saahil Jain, Wachir Ahmed, Neeraj Sharma, Abhijit Rabha, D. Harani Rabha, Azhar Ali, David Nath, Raj Agarwal, Aryaman Panghal and Abir Chakraborty.
