Nagaon, March 15: Four persons were injured in a mosque-related dispute along the Nagaon-Karbi Anglong border early this morning.
An eight-member group allegedly attempted to erect a hut on the premises of Islamia Juma Masjid at Singhgaon in Lanka last night.
This morning, villagers gathered on the site and directed the group to vacate the area. An altercation among the people led to a clash.
The encroachers opened fire with an SBBL gun on the crowd in which a 22-year old youth, Swahid Ahmed, was seriously injured. Three others, including a woman were also hurt in the clash between the villagers and the encroachers.
Ahmed was admitted to the Lanka community health centre from where he was forwarded to Nagaon civil hospital.
A police team from Udali reached the site and arrested two persons, Rashid Ahmed and Sulatana Begum.
