Bokaro, March 15: The roar of a bunch of youths rose above the poster threats of Maoists on Friday.
The Bokaro district administration and the CRPF brass were left smiling for a job well done as 60 rural youths took a boisterous pledge to serve the society and not be influenced by the rebels.
The youths, part of a six-day awareness camp that was held at Petarwar (45km from the troubled Jhumra zone), hailed from various pockets of the district that are affected by red terror. Bokaro SP Kuldip Dwivedi, commandant of CRPF’s 26th Battalion Sanjay Kumar and second-in-command Vikas Pandey, attended the camp on its concluding day.
Sources said officials had handpicked the youngsters to act as ambassadors and spread word about its development policies. The camp followed a fresh publicity war by the Maoists recently planting posters at seven places to oppose Operation Greenhunt.
Mohammed Manjar Ansari, the co-ordinator of today’s camp, said he regretted not being in the district at a time when the state had launched schemes for the youths.
“We were informed about modern farming methods, poultry, fishery, ways to rear cattle and other avenues. If I had been in the district I would have definitely adopted the modern farming techniques and started a poultry business,” said Ansari, a resident of Penk in Nawadih who works at a textile unit in Mumbai.
