Cousins are set to battle it out

Calcutta: Friday’s IFA Shield semi-final, featuring Prayag United SC and Deportivo Saprissa, will also be a battle between the two cousins — Carlos Hernandez and Joel Montero.

Carlos may well be ahead both in terms of stature and experience. But think twice before writing off Montero, as the last thing that this 17-year-old will do is to allow his elder brother dominate proceedings in this all-important clash.

“If I have to vie for the ball against him (Carlos), I’ll definitely go for a tackle,” Montero said on the sidelines of Saprissa’s training session, at the Salt Lake Stadium, on Thursday.

The youngster is a true professional when it comes to excelling in a contest. “My ties with Carlos are a completely separate part... That has nothing to do with the match.

“We’re looking forward to the battle tomorrow and will go full throttle to win it,” Montero added.
