University examinations would soon cease to disrupt regular classes at P.K. Roy Memorial College with the Dhanbad district administration sanctioning land for the construction of hall on campus.
Circle officer Anurag Tiwari handed over a letter allotting 71 decimal land located near ISM gate to principal D.K. Verma for coming up with the hall with a capacity to hold over 1000 examinees.
The demarcation of land, bearing khata 142 and muauza 13/8 of Dhanbad, was conducted at the site in the presence of the Dhanbad circle officer, college authorities and the district president of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha Mukesh, Pandey, who was representing local MP P.N. Singh.
Verma thanked the district administration for the land. “We had sent a memorandum to Dhanbad DC Prashant Kumar and our MP for speeding up the process of land allotment. We are grateful that the administration responded fast,” he told The Telegraph.
The principal pointed out that the hall would be used exclusively for conducting examinations. “However, though it is under our jurisdiction, other district colleges affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University would be free to conduct examinations there,” he added.
Pandey welcomed the development, saying an examination hall was the need of the hour as the district had seven constitution colleges and over a dozen affiliated colleges. The hall, he added, would bolster Dhanbad’s case for hosting a separate university.
The state HRD department had decided to build an examination hall back in 2005. But the process kept getting delayed and the college had to keep on submitting revised estimates. In 2008, the college forwarded an estimate of Rs 1.52 crore, which is yet to be approved by the HRD .
