Durgapur, March 11: Ashim Pramanik, the INTTUC leader in Durgapur who had laid siege to two factories and a hospital in the past few months, was expelled from Trinamul and its trade union today.
Pramanik, considered close to Durgapur mayor and Burdwan Trinamul chief Apurba Mukherjee, was sacked five days after he stalled work at Graphite India Ltd, the largest producer of graphite electrodes in the country. He had also allegedly led workers to detain officials at Jai Balaji Industries in December and created a ruckus outside the Mission Hospital a few days later.
Pramanik’s expulsion was announced by district INTTUC chief Prabhat Chatterjee and Abhijit Ghatak, Trinamul Youth Congress president of Burdwan (industrial), at a news conference. Chatterjee, district Trinamul sources said, leads a party faction opposed to mayor Mukherjee and his associates.
Pramanik said Chatterjee and Ghatak had “no right” to “throw me out” of the party.
Mayor Mukherjee refused comment.
