Trouble for IFA

Calcutta: The Indian Football Association is at its wits’ end.

Till Sunday, it has not been able to announce the semi-final and final dates of the ongoing IFA Shield. And to make matters worse, Mohun Bagan want to know the dates by 4pm on Monday.

IFA’s problem is fixture congestion. East Bengal have left for Vietnam to play in the AFC Cup and will not be back before Thursday.

The tentative dates for the semi-finals were March 16 and 17, with the grand finale on March 19. In all probability, East Bengal will not be game to play the semi-final against Mohun Bagan on Saturday.

And if the Derby takes place on Sunday and Bagan enter the final, there’s more trouble then.Bagan have an I-League home match against Pune FC on March 20. If the final does go ahead on March 19, will it be possible for Bagan to play the very next day?
