Policemen enter last four

Imphal, March 10: Manipur Police Sports Club (B) rode through to the semi-final of the 23rd Governor’s Polo Invitation Tournament, defeating Dras Polo Club by 7-1 goals at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

The Dras Polo team held the policemen to a goalless first chukker.

However, Manipur Police opened up in the second chukker with H. Abungkhuman striking home two goals.

Soon after, S. Abungcha struck another goal to post a three-goal lead.

The policemen increased the lead in the third chukker with Abungkhuman slamming home three more goals.

Dras Polo scored the lone goal through Mumtaz Ali.

However, their joy was shortlived as policeman Th. Romen struck the winning goal in the fourth chukker en route to the semi-final.

In another quarter-final, Tekcham Polo Club(A) thrashed Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club(B) by 9-0 goals.

The Tekcham Polo team dominated the game throughout with P. Ojit scoring the opening goal. Teammate S. Sadananda increased the lead in the first chukker. The second chukker saw M. Dhiren consolidating the score with three more goals. The third chukker failed to produce any goals and in the fourth chukker, Tekcham Polo’s P. Ojit hit in two more goals and Ksh. Tomba finishing off, hitting two more goals for a semi-final berth.

Volleyball: Serfanguri defeated Bongshigaon to emerge champions in the the inter-village (Club) volleyball tournament at Adabari in Kokrajhar on Saturday. Organised by the local unit of the Red Horns Division, 10 teams had taken part in the meet.

MCA cricket

Cyclone Thangmeiband posted a four-run victory against Youth Welfare Club, Langthabal in the 1st MCA Elite Cricket League at Luwangpokpa cricket ground today.

Winning the toss, Cyclone decided to bat first in a limited 40-over match where Roben Singh topscored with 37 runs. YWC bowler Biswas was the most successful bowler, claiming three wickets while Gojen, Ronald, and Bishwajit took two wickets each.

In reply, the Youth Welfare Club scores 109 runs from 40 overs. Prafulomani steadied the innings with 38 runs but ran out of partners. Biswas got 10 runs. Among the Cyclone bowlers, Jempu took three wickets while Akshaykumar and Rajesh picked up two wickets and Suraj fetched one.

Jempu was declared Man of the Match for his three wickets and 12 runs.

PSPB soccer: Oil India Ltd, Duliajan will host the inter-unit Petroleum Sports Promotion Board football tournament at Nehru Maidan from tomorrow.
