Guwahati, March 10: Mumbai Indians pacer Abu Nechim Ahmed disappointed the home crowd with the kookaburra in East Zone’s Deodhar Trophy match against South Zone at Nehru Stadium here today but put up an entertaining show with the willow by the end of the match this afternoon.
The Sunday crowd flocked in to cheer as many as four home players in the East team, particularly when Abu Nechim was brought in bowl to Robin Uthappa and Baba Aparajith. However, they were left disappointed when he conceded 24 runs off two overs in the first spell from the Railway end. Instead, the crowd cheered the boundaries they hit off their favourite bowler.
He ended up conceding 65 runs from seven overs without any breakthrough.
However, Nechim showed his class in batting, cheering up fans, thanks to his IPL stint where he was made to work on his batting.
Coming in to bat at No 9, he slammed some power-packed boundaries sharing an undefeated partnership of 53-runs partnership with another home man Gokul Sharma.
Abu hit three fours and a towering six in his unbeaten knock of 26 runs from 14 balls.
Sharma, who had an eventful Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign recently, also entertained home crowd remaining not out on 40 off 35 balls. He hammered the South bowlers for four boundaries.
Sharma, however, could not impress the home fans with the ball. He returned with 28 for none from five overs.
Earlier, the opening tandem of Pallav Das (16 off 19 balls) and Sibsankar Roy (26 off 43 balls, 4x3) triggered the adrenalin rush in the crowd as the former started up with four boundaries in the first few overs. While Pallav snicked one from Abhimanyu Mithun to Baba Aparajith at the slips, Roy was caught by Aparajith of his own delivery.
