Mishaps kill 3 in city

Three persons were killed in a string of mishaps on Saturday night in Sitaramdera, Sundernagar and Parsudih areas of the city.

Police said a 72-year-old man was hit by a speeding auto-rickshaw around 9.30pm when he was trying to cross Agrico-Sakchi Road on foot.

Baradwari resident Prakash Rao was knocked down and sustained injuries. He was rushed to Tata Main Hospital where he succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning.

Officer in charge of Sitaramdera police station Indubhushan Kumar added that the driver managed to flee with his vehicle towards Sidhgora.

The second incident took place at Sundernagar around 10pm, when a bike hit 60-year-old Bullu Patro while he was standing near his Goradih residence. Patro fell to the ground and suffered head injuries and was immediately rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

In-charge of Sundernagar police station K.D. Jha later told The Telegraph that they had launched a manhunt for the biker who might have been drunk.

The last incident took place on the Station-Karandi Road sometime between 10-10.30pm when one Dhannu Surin (55) was run over by a truck. Parsudih police station in-charge D. Kumar said Surin was a truck driver my profession and might have been run over when he was returning to his Bagbera-based home on foot. He was killed on the spot and found lying in a pool of blood later by some passers-by who immediately informed the police. “The place where the incident took place is isolated. The body was discovered around 11pm,” Kumar said.

DSP (traffic) Rakesh Mohan Srivastava said they have stepped up vigil in the city and launched a crackdown against drunken driving.
