Prime accused in Delhi gang-rape case commits suicide in Tihar Jail

New Delhi, March 11: Ram Singh, the prime accused in the December 16, 2012, Delhi gangrape case, was reported to have committed suicide in Tihar Jail early Monday.

According to ABP News, Singh committed suicide at around 5am by hanging himself with his own clothes.

It is not known if the jail had been following the rules, which state that such convicts have to be kept under watch round the clock.

Ram Singh was one of the six accused of gangraping and brutalising a physiotherapy student in a moving bus on the night of December 16.

Their trial has begun in a fast-track court.

One convict is a juvenile and is being tried separately. The chargesheet has been filed.

ABP News said the trial of the others is not expected to be delayed by the suicide, which will be investigated by a separate inquiry.
