One person was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the snatching of a gold chain on Dover Road on Monday evening.
Police said the 25-year-old accused — identified as Bhanta — had confessed to the crime. The chain, however, has not yet been recovered. Bhanta, allegedly a drug addict, had been arrested several times for petty crimes and was released from jail a few days ago.
Hindustan Park resident Anusua Mukherjee was walking home through Dover Road, near Gariahat, around 6.30pm when her gold chain was snatched. The chain weighed 12gram and was worth Rs 35,000.
Police said the pavements of the locality are generally deserted in the evening. A complaint has been lodged with Ballygunge police station.
