Councillors of various wards of Dhanbad have upped the ante against the municipal corporation’s decision to increase water tariff for individual and commercial consumers.
This comes after the standing committee of the corporation, chaired by mayor Indu Singh, decided to fix new rates at a meeting on February 27.
A delegation of councillors met Awdhesh Kumar Pandey, the CEO of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation, and proposed that the tariff be lowered for families owning houses less than 500 square feet.
The CEO clarified that a decision to lower the tariff could not be taken without the mayor’s approval.
According to the revised rates, a new water connection for houses with area less than 1,000 square feet will now cost Rs 2,800. Houses with area between 1,000 and 2,000 square feet will have to pay Rs 3,600 while owners of houses with area over 2,000 square feet will have to cough up Rs 3,900.
