Dubai: Mahesh Bhupathi won the first title of the 2013 season when he combined with Frenchman Michael Llodra to edge past Robert Lindstedt and Nenand Zimonjic in the summit clash of the Dubai Tennis Championships, here, on Saturday.
Unseeded Bhupathi and Llodra downed the third seeded rivals 7-6 (6) 7-6 (6) .
In the men’s final, late on Saturday, Novak Djokovic beat third-seeded Tomas Berdych 7-5, 6-3. This is Djokovic’s fourth Dubai Championships title.
Djokovic extended his unbeaten streak this year to 13 matches and has now beaten Berdych in 13 of their last 14 meetings.
The sixth-ranked Czech broke first to go up 3-2 in the first set with a crosscourt winner.
But Djokovic ran off three straight games to go up 5-4, saving three break points in the ninth game, and then broke Berdych the second time when he double faulted.
Djokovic broke to go up 5-3 in the second, and saved a break point in the next game before clinching the victory with a forehand winner.
