Cops killed in Valley

Srinagar, March 2: Two policemen were killed in a hit-and-run attack in daylight by militants in north Kashmir’s Handwara town today.

Police said the militants fired pointblank on the policemen who were on duty in Handwara bus stand at 11.10 am.

“In the incident two constables Santosh Singh and Azad Chand got injured. They were shifted to hospital where they were declared dead,” a police spokesperson said.

This is the second militant attack in the Valley after Afzal Guru’s February 9 execution. On February 24, militants had gunned down a sarpanch. Omar Abdullah said the attack was “an act of cowardice”.
