IIT tips for needy students

March 1: Around 100 underprivileged students from various city schools will get tips to crack the IIT entrance exam from those who have been successful.

The daylong programme, Social 360, to be held at the student activity centre of IIT Guwahati, will involve an interactive session with the present scholars as well as senior officials.

A.B.R. Bharadwaj, one of the organisers, said the programme, to be held from 10am to 5pm tomorrow, is being held as part of their social campaign, Sociothon. “The aim of the programme is to spread joy and affection among the underprivileged kids and give them a day to remember and rejoice,” Bharadwaj said.

The institution will also organise various workshops like mathematics race, aero-modelling, games and other fun activities.

Bharadwaj said the students of IIT Guwahati decided to bear the entire education expenditure of two underprivileged students last year.

Students who want to participate in the programme can also contact Bharadwaj on his mobile number: 8486263713. “Those who want to participate can contact me on Saturday morning. All are welcome,” he said.

Sociothon, which organises many other events like free health camp, blood donation camp and a half-marathon, is part of Techniche, the four-day annual techno-management festival of IIT Guwahati being held since 1999.

Thousands of students from all over the country flock every year to the festival. The organisers said a huge number of students are expected to attend the festival this year too.
