War of words at Algapur

Algapur, March 1: A day after he lost the Algapur seat to Mandira Roy, Congress candidate and wife of Gautam Roy, in the recently concluded bypoll, AIUDF candidate Mehbubul Hasan Laskar gave vent to his annoyance on the comments passed by the PHE minister against party chief Badruddin Ajmal.

Roy had said the days of Ajmal’s attempt to win hearts and minds of the people through his art of chanting mantras are over.

The young advocate-turned-politician, Laskar, said the PHE minister must not fan anti-religious sentiments or else the consequences will be bitter for the Congress, for which none but Roy himself will be responsible.

In a strong counter to Roy’s remarks, Mehbubul told reporters at Algapur Press Club today that he has reports of his party members being targeted by members of the Congress.

“If the reports are true, then I will not sit silent,” said Mehbubul.

He added that he has the support of over 51,000 people of Algapur and warned the minister not to be complacent.

Mehbubul has also alleged that the poll officers had indulged in foul play.
