Bike gang robs jeweller

Ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh and Rs 5,000 in cash were snatched away from a jeweller in Dhurwa, Ranchi, late on Wednesday evening.

Six men on two motorbikes intercepted Nandkishore Prasad (55) and his son Ravi Prasad (30), who were returning home from their shop at JP Market around 9pm.

“The goons knocked the father-son duo off their two-wheeler and tried to speed away with the bag containing gold and cash. When the jeweller’s son resisted, he and his father were dragged for a distance and threatened to be shot. Both were injured. The gang later escaped towards Dhurwa dam,” a policeman said.

Dhurwa OC B.N. Singh said a case had been registered and efforts were on to identify the criminals.

This is the second case of snatching in a week.

On February 25, two men on a motorcycle had robbed a gold chain from an elderly resident of Harmu Housing Colony. An FIR was registered with Kotwali police. No one has been arrested so far.

A police officer admitted their failure. “These bike gangs come to the city from Katihar in Bihar or some place in Odisha, which gives them a legal leeway,” he added.
