Media trounces civic men on pitch

To maintain a healthy relationship with the media, the Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC) played a friendly cricket match with the men from the press. Howrah Corporation Mayor’s XI and Howrah Media XI clashed on February 17, despite inclement weather at the HMC stadium. There was no dearth of enthusiasm from the spectators. The match started after the opening by mayor Mamata Jaiswal. Others who were present at the stadium were MMIC in charge of water, Samir Saha, opposition leader of HMC, Arun Roychowdhury, councillors Buddhadev Sarkar and Sujit Mukherjee. Ashraf Javed, MMIC in charge of parks and gardens, was the captain of Mayor’s XI and Debasish Das of Anandabazar Patrika captained the Media XI. The 20-over match was reduced to 12 overs due to bad weather. Ashraf Javed won the toss and chose to field. The Media XI team scored 87 runs for all wickets. In turn, the Mayor XI was all out for 39 runs.
