Kolkata, Mar 1 (PTI): Trinamool Congress strongman Arabul Islam, who was accused in a case of arson at Bamunghata in the Bhangar area, was released on bail Friday after spending 43 days in custody.
Arabul, who was lodged in Alipore Central Jail, was granted conditional bail by the chief judicial magistrate of Alipore court on Thursday.
This was Arabul's fifth attempt in getting bail in the case, having been refused four times earlier.
He was, however, directed not to enter the Leather Complex police station area, under the jurisdiction of which the place of arson falls.
The former Bhangar legislator was accused of involvement in the burning of vehicles of CPI(M) supporters and assault.
Arabul was also charged with assaulting Rezzak Mollah, a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), when Mollah was leading a rally past a meeting being held by Arabul at Bhangar.
He was earlier granted bail in the case.
