Burnt to death

Krishnagar, Feb. 28: A 44-year-old homemaker was set ablaze and killed by alleged Trinamul-backed anti-socials in Nadia last night following a quarrel over ownership of of a plot.

Tapas Saha, the Trinamul general secretary of Nadia, said all six attackers were party supporters.

Arabul bail

Calcutta: An Alipore court on Thursday granted bail to former Trinamul MLA Arabul Islam, who was arrested on charges of leading attacks on CPM veteran Abdur Rezzak Mollah and a Left procession in South 24-Parganas in early January.

Tamluk: Nearly 500 people who gathered outside the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Tamluk on Thursday punched, pushed and kicked a murder accused. Jyotsna Mohanti has been accused of murdering a school student with whose father she was allegedly having an affair.

Two die

Dhaniakhali: Two cold storage employees in Hooghly’s Dhaniakhali were killed and two others injured when a pipeline filled with ammonia exploded during a repair job on Thursday.

Gold stolen

Midnapore: Two persons duped an assistant sub-inspector of schools in Midnapore of gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of conducting a puja for his daughter’s marriage. Police are looking for the duo, who had told Manik Chandra Ghanta that they had solutions to all problems.
