Cops probe threat to Ambani

Mukesh Ambani

Mumbai, Feb. 27: The crime branch of Mumbai police has launched a probe into a handwritten letter purportedly sent by the Indian Mujahideen threatening Mukesh Ambani with an attack on his 27-storey mansion Antilla if he continued supporting Narendra Modi and investing in Gujarat.

According to a police officer, an unidentified person delivered the letter in a sealed envelope at Ambani’s office at Maker Chambers on Sunday.

The letter also demanded the release of IM operative Mohammed Danish Ansari, arrested on the charge of sheltering the group’s founders, Riyaz and Yasin Bhatkal, three years ago.

A senior Reliance Industries official, who met Mumbai police chief Satyapal Singh, handed over the letter and requested a probe. “We cannot comment whether it is a prank or a serious threat unless we carry out a proper investigation,” a crime branch officer said.

The police have asked for CCTV footage at Ambani’s office to find out if cameras had captured the image of the person who delivered the letter.

A Reliance spokesperson said the company would not comment till the probe was over.
