Shops gutted

Jorhat, Feb. 26: At least 17 shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at Sonari town in Sivasagar district today. Police suspect a short circuit might have caused the fire.

Arrested

Nagaon: Said Halder and Rahul Ali were arrested while they were travelling in a bus from Samaguri to Nagaon town. A rhino horn was seized from them.

Apprehended

Guwahati: BSF troops on Tuesday apprehended six illegal Bangladeshi migrants at Kuliang in East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya.

Demise

Guwahati: Retired teacher of Haflong Boys Higher Secondary School, Nizamuddin Ahmed, passed away at his residence on Tuesday. He was 75. A half-day’s holiday was declared in all schools in Dima Hasao district.

Drugs seized

Guwahati: BSF personnel seized 9,104 Ddyclomine hydrochloride capsules, 1,000 nitra-zepam tablets, 1,440 pentazacine lactate injections from the bank of the Jinjiram river at Nagaband in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on Monday.
