Gaza rocket
Jerusalem, Feb. 26 (Reuters): A rocket fired from Gaza exploded in Israel on Tuesday, the first such attack since a November truce, and a militant group said it launched the strike to retaliate for the death of a Palestinian in an Israeli jail.
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades called the rocket a “first response” to inmate Arafat Jaradat’s death in disputed circumstances on Saturday.
Syria missiles
Beirut (AP): At least 141 people, half of them children, were killed when the Syrian military fired at least four missiles into the northern province of Aleppo last week, Human Rights Watch said on Tuesday.
Pak death
Peshawar (AP): Gunmen shot and killed a police officer today who was protecting a team of polio workers during a UN-backed vaccination campaign in northwestern Pakistan. No polio workers were wounded in the attack in the Mardan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said.
