Attack at shop
Four youths attacked a 40-year-old goldsmith and slit his throat at his Posta shop on Monday night. Sintu Sheikh has been admitted to a private hospital with deep cuts on his throat and a fractured skull. The attackers are yet to be identified. “It seems nothing has been stolen from the shop,” said an officer of Posta police station.
Traffic hit
Traffic was disrupted in parts of north Calcutta after a lorry allegedly jumped signal and injured a traffic constable who tried to stop it at the next signal. The goods carrier was stationed between the Shyambazar five-point crossing and Barrackpore bridge from 6.50am to 7.20am, resulting in snarls in the area. The injured cop has been identified as Uttam Mondal.
Metro
Metro services were disrupted for 12 minutes after a woman tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a Dum Dum-bound train at Shyambazar Metro station at 7.32pm on Tuesday. The woman was saved as the driver slammed the emergency brakes on time.
Arrested
The CID has arrested two arms dealers, Safiqul Mandal and Taleb Mandal, at Saheb Colony in Naihati on Tuesday afternoon. |
