Power snapped

Tamluk, Feb. 26: The Left-run Haldia municipality has disconnected power supply to an ICDS centre on the civic office’s premises, saying it has to vacate the room allotted to an executive officer.

The ICDS centre has been asked to shift to another room on the third floor of the building.

Molest cuffs

Rampurhat: Three of the five youths accused of molesting a hospital employee’s daughter and beating up her brother on the facility’s premises on Sunday were arrested on Monday night. Saddam Sheikh, Pintu Sheikh and Saffique Sheikh were remanded in a week’s police custody.

Girls killed

Tamluk: Two higher-secondary examinees were murdered in East Midnapore’s Tamluk and South 24-Parganas’ Joynagar. Police said the murder of the girls had nothing to do with the exams.

Basu plaque

Calcutta: Speaker Biman Banerjee said on Tuesday that a plaque installed by former chief minister Jyoti Basu to construct a five-storey building on the Assembly premises in 2001 would be removed shortly. He said no construction could be done at a heritage site.
