James stars in United victory

James Singh

Calcutta: James Singh put up a stellar performance — he scored one and set up the other — to help Prayag United SC register a 2-0 win over Bhowanipore Club in a CFL Premier Division Super Nine match at the Kalyani Stadium, on Monday. Substitute Kayne Vincent scored the other goal.

In the process, United SC climbed to the third spot in the table with 11 points from five matches. Bhowanipore, on the other hand, slipped to the fifth position with 10 points from seven matches.

United SC squandered numerous chances and coach Eelco Schattorie sounded a bit frustrated with the performance. “No doubt, we could have won the match by a bigger margin… I would be lying if I say that I am not perturbed with the fact that my players missed easy chances.”

The match was pitted to be a battle between United SC’s Ranty Martins and Bhowanipore’s Jose Ramirez Barreto, but it was James who stole the limelight. He held the midfield together and was instrumental in developing the moves.

Ranty and Barreto both put up a flop show, missing easy chances. United SC’s other star, Carlos Hernandez looked terribly out of shape and Schattorie suggested that he should quickly get in shape. “You cannot lose weight overnight… I would suggest him to have a proper diet and get back to shape,” Schattorie said.

United SC scored their first goal in the 15th minute. Taking control of a loose ball, James’ right-footer from 20 yards found the back of the net.

It was in the 80th minute that United SC scored their second goal. James released Kayne and the New Zealander made no mistake.
